Industrial Landscape Photography Meetup

Industrial Landscape Photography Meetup

Saturday 15 June
Solar St, Syracuse - 5pm - 2 Hours
Daniel Michaels
We will be starting with an overview of landscape photography technique, how to decide what to take a picture of and how to compose shots, we will then move into settings and more technical challenges to get an idea of when the camera behaves best for landscapes.

You can use buildings and other man-made structures compositionally in the same way other landscape photographers use trees and rolling hills. Wind farms, harbours, cement works, power stations, quarries, pylons and building sites are just a few of the industrial landscapes you can photograph.

Dan Michaels provided all the expertise and advice I was hoping to obtain from this event. Great tips for dealing with the nuances of a zoo setting with subjects that were moving and "inconsiderate" of photographers :)

Absolutely loved the event. Not only did I leave with more knowledge about my camera and how to shoot but also to think around the composition and not always just shoot the obvious. Also, thar sometimes you need to wait out the shot you're looking for.

Photography is not just a job to me, it is a passion, a way of life, some may even say, it is an obsession. Very rarely will you see me without a camera over my shoulder. My passion for the art of photography started way back in high school. Since that time I have devoted my life to creating images and teaching. I do not limit myself to the studio, I also shoot street photography and an occasional wedding.

After high school I moved to Atlanta GA to study photography at the Portfolio Center and later at the Art Institute of Atlanta. During this time I started to assist several photographers in the area. After my education I moved back to Syracuse and became a studio manager, and taught photography on the Syracuse University campus.

After a year of missed opportunities, cloud coverage, etc, I can finally check off the Aurora/Northern Lights off my bucket-list (even though I really want to see them in Alaska). We drove 45 min northwest to Sodus Bay & the clouds were not letting up even though at first they started to. A friend of mine txted me & said to head to Rochester. We drove about 45 min west, found the park she told us about & the most amazing thing happened, we saw the Aurora. It was a faint pink to the eyes but

For 2 weeks every winter Sydney is lit up with amazing colours and beams of light over the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, and various buildings throughout the city. I captured this photo of the Opera House from across the water at the Overseas Passenger Terminal. I used a slow shutter speed (of 1 sec) to capture light trails from the passing water craft, and I held my iPhone up against my lens to create an artificial reflection on the water.Canon R6ii, RF 70-200mm f2.8 (@ 70mm), 1s, iso 200.
