Street Photography

Saturday 16 March
Downtown, Syracuse - 10am - 2 Hours
Daniel Michaels
People, cafes, vendors, street merchants, buskers, historic buildings, art installations and much more. The power of observation underpins the art of great street photography. Learning to "see" interesting detail is a practised skill and we introduce you to easy methods that will open your photographer's eye and expose you to a world that is alive with detail. The most rewarding part of the class is learning how to approach interesting people and have them willingly pose for you.

We will also go over settings, focusing techniques and lens choices common to street photography to help us capture those random chance encounters.

This class was great. I enjoyed being a student again. I like that Daniel started the class with a discussion. We talked about the basics and ethics of street photography and he gave us examples of great street shots. I really appreciated that he gave us a challenge while shooting on the street. After this class, I can say that I feel more confident!

This class was extremely educational for a beginner photographer like myself. Thanks to the education and hands-on experience gained in the class, I've been able to move past taking 'point and shoot' photos with my camera in automatic mode. I now have the ability, confidence and knowledge needed to shoot photos in manual mode and manipulate my camera's settings accordingly.

I like how Daniel Micheals give us challeges with our camera. Even though its scary but it was fun! He look over our work. And he tells us what he likes and what could be better. He always ask us if we have any questions. The only thing I wish to make it better since the event was huge event is where we can spot him better whenever we want to look for him.

Photography is not just a job to me, it is a passion, a way of life, some may even say, it is an obsession. Very rarely will you see me without a camera over my shoulder. My passion for the art of photography started way back in high school. Since that time I have devoted my life to creating images and teaching. I do not limit myself to the studio, I also shoot street photography and an occasional wedding.

After high school I moved to Atlanta GA to study photography at the Portfolio Center and later at the Art Institute of Atlanta. During this time I started to assist several photographers in the area. After my education I moved back to Syracuse and became a studio manager, and taught photography on the Syracuse University campus.

I had shot the sunrise at Horseshoe Bend the same morning and was hoping for a blazing sunset at this location after talking to the other photographers present at sunrise. Even with some clouds, we were not so fortunate and when the sunlight was casting on the water I switched to black and white mentality and was able to capture this photo. You can just see the setting sun in the upper right corner for the photo.

These photos require a lot of patience and a lot of clear nights reason why my telescopes are working almost every night when it isn't cloudy. Astrophotography is very different from all the other types of photography, a single photo sometimes requires tens of hours under the clear night sky but the result is very satisfying. In this photo, I would like to present to you the California Nebula
